St Dismas and True Mercy

Although he was a murderer and a thief, he treated the Divine Child with such kindness that Our Lady promised him a great grace before death. On the Cross, Dismas blasphemed Christ. Yet he was saved through Our Lady's intercession! Mercy never seeks to keep a person in a sorrowful state; it seeks to heal and transform. It is merciless to keep one in his illness and pretend he is fine. To avoid false mercy, consider well the spiritual works of mercy and the corporal works of mercy.
Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner
wpengine2026-02-17T10:28:23-05:00The saying, "Love the sinner and hate the sin" is often abused. We need to understand it correctly. Our actions do matter. Sin does call down the wrath of God. The unrepentant sinner will not enter Heaven. God loves the good in man (e.g. his created nature), but God hates the sinfulness which man has chosen to make part of himself. God looks at what a man could be if the evil was removed and penance done. By God's grace, fallen man can be recreated anew!
