Dismas met the Holy Family during their harrowing flight to Egypt. Although he was a murderer and a thief, he treated the Divine Child with such kindness that Our Lady promised him a great grace before death. On the Cross, Dismas blasphemed Christ. Yet he was saved through Our Lady's intercession! Mercy never seeks to keep a person in a sorrowful state; it seeks to heal and transform. It is merciless to keep one in his illness and pretend he is fine. To avoid false mercy, consider well the spiritual works of mercy and the corporal works of mercy.
