St Paul the Hermit and Detachment

2026-05-11T08:38:34-04:00

Paul’s parents died and his brother-in-law defrauded him. He retreated into the desert. In the silence of a cave he saw clearly the vanities of this world. Paul lived a life of simplicity and peace, supported only by the providence of God. Many years later his solitude was discovered by St. Anthony, who witnessed his miraculous death. Every disciple must detach from the deceit and dangers of the world to follow Christ. Yet living with Christ is eternal life — beginning here and now. May the example of the saints be a constant help and encouragement to us.

Our Lady of Sorrows and the Passion – Prayer

2025-03-12T11:18:24-04:00

The prayer from the sermon 'Crux Fidelis' given on February 21, 2021 Holy Mary, Mother of sorrows, whose heart was pierced with a fresh sword of grief at every Station on the Way of the Cross, obtain for us, we beseech thee, O most loving Mother, a perpetual remembrance of our Blessed Savior’s cross and death, and a true and tender devotion to all the mysteries of His most holy Passion.Obtain for us the grace to hate sin, even as He hated it in the Agony of the Garden; to endure wrong and insult with all patience, as He endured them [...]

Little Children, Love One Another

2024-12-02T09:20:12-05:00

Jesus loves us and calls us to love Him in return His judgment of each one of us will be based on truth and charity. Because we love Him we obey Him and seek to follow His will. Conform yourself to His signified will (as expressed in His commandments, sacraments, church teachings and the commands of our lawful superiors). Conform yourself to the will of His good pleasure (i.e. have a wiling and cheerful acceptance of everything that happens, realizing it comes from His loving hand). Detach yourself from creatures - including self – in order to attach yourself to God.

When Is It Asking Too Much

2023-04-03T14:37:27-04:00

Things are now different in Passiontide. The Church covers up her saints? Why? She is merely following the spirit of her Master, who now covers up His glory. If Christ has nothing to give you, will you still follow Him? What are the limits of your love for Him? All that really matters is that we fall in love with Christ. This is the Catholic Faith. These two weeks define us as Catholics, how will you respond?
