Lent is the Church’s way of encouraging us to engage anew in mortal combat with the fallen man inside each one of us. The Scriptures provide deep lessons for those with ears to hear; consider the images of sparrows, wood, scarlet, hyssop and living waters. By meditating upon the glories that await us in Heaven, we will be strengthened in the spiritual battle against the evil 'doppelganger' within us.
