Low Sunday. Blessed are those who have faith without seeing. We might call this a ninth beatitude upon which the other eight rest. Easter begins with faith. At our baptism, Christ calls us each to “be not faithless but believing.” Today, there is a grave crisis of faith amidst the members of the Church Militant, as so many seek to conform the teachings of Christ to the world (to what we see, experience, feel, and opine), instead of having the world conforming itself to Christ and His teachings. Many have even succumbed to the diabolical deception that pastoral practice may be separated from doctrine. Thus, the need for genuine faith is great today, and as faithful Catholics we must all respond to this urgent command from the Risen Lord. To profess “My Lord and my God” means I believe everything He (and His Church) says is true and I will base my life on that. Each one of us is in need of great faith. Five things you can do to increase your faith are: [1] Acknowledge the weakness of your faith. [2] Beg God to increase your faith. [3] Believe in the truths of the Faith, that is, what the Church has always taught. [4] Go to the cenacle. [5] Give thanks to God for the trials which tests and purify your faith.
