Devotion to the Precious Blood is especially needed in these days when many deny the very notion of sin and its great cost in Blood. When Pilate did not want to condemn Innocent Blood, the Jewish mob embraced responsibility, "May His Blood be upon us and upon our children." The Blood of Christ became a mark of Cain and curse upon them; but it can immediately become a blessing if we repent and mourn for our sins. (In imitation of Christ, St. John de Matha sought to ransom and free Christians enslaved by Muslims.) Woe to us! who have been redeemed by that Blood, however, if we waste that Blood. By sinning seriously we become worse than the Jews of old. Let us instead console our Lord, lessening His pain and soothing His wounded Heart.
